Creating a Great Holiday Display

July market season has come and gone. So, now’s the time to gear up for the busy 4th quarter.  Most retail businesses do 30% of their volume during holiday season, hence having a winning merchandising display is essential to driving good business. Here are a few tips to ensure you have a successful holiday set up, and how to merchandise according to your style.

Minimalist Christmas

When it comes to merchandising for the holiday season, the first thing that comes to mind is grandiose trees and whimsical decor, but these days there are many types of holiday themes such as rustic, Scandinavian and boho which follow a less-is-more type of approach. These design styles can be super fun and creative to merchandise, and can be especially ideal for anyone working with a smaller retail space or don’t want as big of a footprint for their holiday vignettes. Cute but simple wire wreaths and small plaques or signs like the ones pictured above are subtle but still give the happy holiday vibe. You can dress your display up with eucalyptus, berries to add texture or a mini wood tree as opposed to the traditional 6 ft pine or fir for dimension.

Traditional Christmas

For those who still want their holiday to be merry and bright, a traditional vignette is still exciting and can be made fresh by using trends like buffalo check paired with gold ornaments, untraditional colors such as metallics, blues, and silvers or oversized paper ornaments and greenery. Other big trends in the industry to try are jewel tones, over-the-top ribbons, or an all-white palette for those looking for something with a little class. And of course, don’t forget a fabulous tree topper to bring it all together.

Millennial Christmas

The newest trend in holiday displays are vibrant, colorful, and beloved by both the young and the young at heart. Neon or pastel colored trees, ombre or tinsel trees and less traditional ornaments in fun shapes or characters like tacos or unicorns make this design style unique and individual. While it is definitely not for the faint at heart, this is a winner for anyone looking to stand out from the crowd or those who have a younger brand demographic that would appreciate the whimsical qualities of a left-of-center merchandise display.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and your holiday display is sure to shine with one of these three merchandising ideas.
