Behind the Product: The DEMDACO Story

DEMDACO’s purpose statement is very simple; to pursue business the way it ought to be.  We realize that this compass setting requires constant evaluation and calibration, and we realize that we fall short of our goal every day.  But we’re committed to the notion that business does not have to be solely a financial endeavor.  It is first, and foremost, a human endeavor.

Founded in 1997 by Demi and Dave Kiersznowski, DEMDACO offers a hand-selected collection of tailor-made products that celebrate how people live in their homes, engage with family and friends, and treat themselves. The special assortment of unique designs includes products for gifts, home & garden, fashion & jewelry, baby & kids, bath & body, holidays, and celebrations.

DEMDACO products are as diverse as the people buying them, but we strive for them to have one important thing in common: to lift the human spirit. Our hope is to offer DEMDACO products that reflect a person’s desire to nurture goodness in their own lives and in the lives of others.

Artful ReflectionsQ: Tell us a little more about your product offerings?  What’s unique about your products vs. other manufacturers?

A:  DEMDACO offers a very diverse product offering within key categories.  These include: 1. Gift & Home Accents, 2. baby plush & gift, 3. Fashion & personal care, 4. Seasonal, 5. Entertaining.  We believe that our products lift the spirit for customers by developing items that showcase inspirational messaging, celebrating relationships, and making people happy.  Our internal creative teams and outside artist partners are adept at capturing just the right mix of art, innovation, and message that helps our product have strong sell-through for retailers.

Q: Where do you get your inspirations and trend direction from for new products?

A:  Our product comes from a diverse network of creative people who all contribute to our categories and formats.  We walk partners through our goals for each season and are able to bring them into the process at early stages.  Kelly Rae Roberts has collaborated with DEMDACO for many years.  Through collaboration, she has inspired home accents, garden product, fashion, and coming soon… baby collections.  Because our company was founded on artist businesses, we also receive independent artist submissions from around the globe.

Q: What do you love most about attending the markets?

A:  The markets are a great place to get a pulse on retailer perception of your brand, are we meeting their needs, what we can do better.  The product and marketing teams love the interaction and ability to learn from each attendee.  This is also one of the few industries where similar companies talk about their respective business environments.  All companies have the same goal of meeting consumer/customer needs and respect each company’s unique position in the market.  Sharing business climate updates while maintaining your proprietary info is beneficial.  This is extremely unique of any industry.

Willow TreeQ: Why do customers love your products?

A:  We receive thousands of letters per year.  We route them around the company each week.  The letters keep the pulse on whether our products meet their intended needs.  Willow Tree is a benchmark for how products can have a connection with consumers. DEMDACO products are there when people get married, have babies, go through something challenging, or just enjoying time with friends.  We are grateful for being able to speak to milestones, occasions, and key events of a family.  It’s why DEMDACO employees enjoy what they do each day.

Q: What does the future hold for DEMDACO?  Maybe a small sneak peek into future product expansions, ideas, etc.

A: Over the last few years we’ve built our baby business.  It’s gone extremely well and now we can thoughtfully expand in other areas.  I’m most excited about our focus in 2 areas:  Entertaining and Fashion.  With entertaining, we have one of the strongest equity lines in the industry with Glass Fusion and Glass Fusion Pop-In’s.  Our new lines: Uncork & Unwind, Made For You, and Table Talk are all off to a great start and enhance our offering in entertaining.  With Fashion, we’ve seen a tremendous increase in sell-through of our City Wrap lines and byDesign scarves.  _Y5G0931We focus more on where artist solutions can be more prevalent and our scarves are works of art you can wear.

One of the gems we about to launch is The Christmas Wish.  This is a collection of holiday products inspired by the NY Times best selling book, The Christmas Wish.  This is a phenomenal product line and is going to be a great yearly collection for families during the Christmas season.  The teams at DEMDACO are excited about the next year and beyond and we believe consumers and customers will be happy with our solutions as well.

Mud Pie: See Us on Six

New Mud Pie Showroom in Atlanta, Americas Mart #680

New Mud Pie Showroom in Atlanta, Americas Mart #680

Mud Pie is expected to be the buzz of the Atlanta Gift market for retailers visiting the Atlanta International Gift Show this January.   When they open doors to their new 10,000-square-foot showroom on Jan. 11th, on the sixth floor of Building 2 at AmericasMart, they will enhance the buying experience for retailers by showcasing products in a functional, lifestyle atmosphere.

“Our team has created a soft, warm and welcoming environment,” said Chad Gieseke, Director of Visual Merchandising. “Our aim is to set the tone for a pleasant buying experience by paying attention to details.”

The brand has turned visions into reality with a showplace that embodies an atmosphere of rustic elegance. As you enter into Mud Pie’s new showroom, you will be greeted with an upscale industrial attitude. Retailers can expect department store style display windows, a living room, a café area and ample amounts of space to present all three lines of  2016 Spring product – living, baby and fashion.

Mud Pie’s focus of the new showroom is to exhibit products against a neutral palette that retailers can replicate for  their own store fronts. Gieseke and team have invented merchandising concepts that inspire solutions for challenging piece types.

The new location will continue to be managed by OneCoast.  Mud Pie will first reveal the space during the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market in January. The company will continue to showcase products – including line expansions and new piece types – at the Dallas and Las Vegas winter markets.
